Discussion of Fence Regulations

Summary:

The Commission previously expressed interest in reviewing current fencing regulations, specifically relating to materials and vegetative shielding. Chris Brimo, the town’s contract planner, will provide some high-level comments for the board to discuss. Prior to sending the item for P&Z consideration, the Commission discussed the need to address code deficiencies regarding suitable fencing materials, perhaps disallowing some materials like chain-link, the unity of construction heights and materials along fence faces, enforcement of vegetative coverings and appropriate setback limitations for fences. In addition, the Commission requested that perhaps the board could consider relief from vegetative requirements or other requirements in order to entice more attractive fence offerings.
