Title

Discussion of Fence Regulations

body
______________________________________________________________________

Summary:

The Commission previously expressed interest in reviewing current fencing regulations, specifically relating to materials and vegetative shielding. The Town Commission discussed the need to address code deficiencies regarding suitable fencing materials, perhaps disallowing some materials like chain-link, the unity of construction heights and materials along fence faces, enforcement of vegetative coverings and appropriate setback limitations for fences. Changes reflected in the attachments include:

All visible retaining walls require caps

All fences must be maintained subject to 74-517

Fence heights are determined from grade, but includes berms

Fences must have uniform heights along a running face

Fences may be constructed of one material type and of a type specified

Chain-link: Must be black coated, have a top rail, be 85% shielded at installation and demonstrate irrigation for vegetation. Green coatings and meshes only for public spaces

                     No dangerous fences

Old fence may not be abandoned in place

                     Temporary fences only during construction

Also attached are sample plantings that might serve as suitable buffers.
