Approval of Tackett Park Plan
Summary:
Adjacent to Town Hall lies a parcel of land that has been recently dedicated as Tackett Park in honor of fallen Police Officer Jeffery Tackett. With support from the Doyle Family and the Belleair Police Department plans have been developed to renovate the parcel of land into a passive memorial park in honor of all those who have fallen in the line of duty as a first responder.

Previous Commission Action: Commission approved a Proclamation honoring Officer Jeffery Tackett on 4/18/17. On 6/4/18 the commission approved an additional Proclamation honoring Officer Tackett and approved Resolution 2018-30 renaming the parcel adjacent to Town Hall as Jeffery W. Tackett Park
Background/Problem Discussion: The parcel adjacent to Town Hall was constructed as a stormwater retention area for the newly built Dimmitt Community Center. It is a space that is perfectly located to serve as employee break area but has never been developed to be used as such. With the name dedication the park needs to be renovated to reflect the honorary name of Jeffery W. Tackett Park.
Expenditure Challenges The budget for the park renovation is $48,000 from the following funding sources:
- $25,000 from Doyle Family private donation
- $8,000 from Police Fund
- $15,000 Park Improvement Fund (Town)
Financial Implications: Future maintenance of the Park has been included in the budget but does not add to the current requirements.
Recommendation: Staff recommends the approval of the park design and budget for construction of Jeffery W. Tackett Park
Proposed Motion Propose a motion to approve the park plan and budget in order to construct the park in honor of Officer Tackett.
