Background/Problem Discussion: A total of ten special awards were announced at the holiday party. Those awards (and their winners) are listed below.

Employees of the Year: Each year, an employee of the year is selected from the pool of employee of the month winners, and is announced at the holiday party. This year; however, we couldn’t just choose one. Hence, both Keith Bodeker (Construction Project Supervisor, Administration Department) and Kelly Flowers (Recreation Programmer I, Parks and Recreation Department) are our employees of the year for 2017. Both Keith and Kelly received employee of the month twice this year for their commitment to excellence, and are fantastic examples of employees that set Belleair apart.

Core Values Awards: As a way to celebrate our core values of being neighborly, empathetic, and diligent, we created three new awards this year - one for each of the values. However, it was again too difficult to choose just one winner for each value, so we chose two each. The winners for these are below.

o                     Neighborly Award Winners: Rick Doyle (Patrol Officer, Police Department) and Adolphus Merricks (Refuse Collector, Solid Waste Department)

o                     Empathetic Award Winners: Susan Lee (HR and Risk Management Coordinator, Support Services Department) and Tena Khachab (Administrative Assistant, Water Department)

o                     Diligent Award Winners: Joyce Sparkman (Accounts Payable, Support Services Department) and Robyn Doty-Lopez (Customer Service Clerk, Police Department)

Rookie of the Year Award: 2017 was a year of new hires for Belleair, and staff felt the creation of this new award would be a new way to recognize employees that set the bar high and embodied our core values early on. While many of our new employees went above-and-beyond this year, one stood out for his work ethic and for the knowledge and experience he brings to our town. This employee is Troy Cornock, our Streets and Sidewalks Foreman from the Public Works Department. Troy was hired in January and came from a construction background in the private sector. This knowledge, and his go-getter attitude, has improved efficiency town-wide.

Excellence in Leadership Award: Our final new award this year was created as a way to recognize a director or supervisor that would ordinarily be exempt from such awards. This year’s award went to Ricky Allison, our Public Services Coordinator from the Public Works Department. Ricky serves on many committees and boards in Belleair, oversees six employees in the Public Works Department, and is an innovative employee who is involved in long-term planning for the public spaces in Belleair.
