The Town of Belleair was awarded a grant by the State of Florida Division of Historical Resources earlier this year to update the Town’s 1997 historic study. Previous Commission Action: At the Historic Preservation Board meeting in July, staff was still in the process of finalizing the project’s RFP and the Town’s contract with the State. Shortly after this board meeting, the Town Commission approved staff to distribute an RFP in order to select a contractor for this project. The Commission also approved JMT as the contractor for this project at the November 8 regular meeting.
Background/Problem Discussion: Town staff applied for this grant in 2016 in order to assess the historic properties and structures in Belleair and to make recommendations for historic preservation throughout town. This project will also include interviews of at least five Belleair residents in order to provide storytelling and qualitative functions to the final project and report. Town staff believes that this project will allow Belleair to further recognize and support preservation movements and efforts for many years to come.
Additionally, staff (plus Vice Chair Shank) believes that JMT is the best contractor for the job, and is excited to begin work alongside project leader, Sara McLaughlin, later this month.
