Approval of Cape Seal roadway pavement treatment on Cypress Ave, Eastleigh Dr, Osceola Rd, and Varona St
Summary:
Staff is seeking Commission approval to piggy back on Polk County 2015 Annual Pavement Management Alternative Methods #15-601. Polk County has awarded this contract to Asphalt Paving Systems through October, 2018. The contract includes leveling asphalt, chip sealant, micro paving, and striping. Based on the unit prices of the contract, the total expenditure for the project is $86,984.60.

Previous Commission Action: N/A
Background/Problem Discussion: The current condition of the asphalt on Cypress Ave, Eastleigh Dr, Osceola Rd (from Indian Rocks Road east to Varona St.), and Varona St (from Osceola north Ponce De Leon Blvd) is in need of repair and treatment to help extend the life of the current roadway. Staff is planning on filling all open potholes with leveling asphalt, then applying a chip seal application over top of it to help seal the current asphalt. Immediately after the chip seal is applied a top coat of micro pave will be applied to the roadway with necessary striping to follow short after. The town is planning work on Osceola and Varona in the future, and this work should allow the road condition to stabilize until that project occurs.

Financial Implications: The total expenditure for the project is $86,894.60.
Recommendation: Staff recommends the Commission move approval of piggybacking the Polk County contract #15-601 and Asphalt Paving Systems to install Cape Seal roadway pavement treatment to Cypress Ave, Eastleigh Dr, Osceola Rd, and Varona St to in the amount of $86,894.60.
