Title: Presence of dogs in parks Summary: Residents are requesting a discussion about the presence of dogs in parks. All of the parks in the Town of Belleair allow for dogs and other pets to be within the park as long as they are maintained on a leash of adequate length. Question have arisen about the need for more opportunities for dogs to run off-leash and would require changes to the existing ordinances. Options could include changes to the current code to allow off-leash pets or the construction of a "Dog Park" which would be a fenced in area that dogs would be allowed to be off-leash.

Previous Commission Action: The commission has not discussed this item.  However, in August of 2010 the Park and Tree Board discussed and voted to not entertain the idea of a Dog Park within town.

Background/Problem Discussion: The current ordinances of the Town of Belleair do not allow for pets to be off-leash within public parks, streets or Rights of Way.  As mentioned, in 2010 the Park and Tree Board discussed the possibility of having a dog park located within Town but ultimately voted “NO” on the item. .
