Approval of general engineering professional services from RS&H to complete a Safe Routes to School Study around the Belleair Montessori Academy. The Montessori Academy would be the center point and the study would be done to encompass all known routes within an approximate 1/4 (0.25) mile radius around the Montessori Academy.
Summary:
Staff is seeking Commission approval for general engineering professional services from RS&H to complete a Safe Routes to School Study around the area of the Belleair Montessori Academy. The study will focus on pedestrian routes to the school, and all public facilities on Ponce. Staff will utilize the results of the study to help info future capital project needs, and immediately address pedestrian safety problems, The study results will also be used for cooperative funding and grant applications to help fund future improvements with cooperators like the State of Florida, Pinellas County, Pinellas County School Board, and Forward Pinellas. This study directly addresses Strategic Plan Goal: Infrastructure C3; A system of multi-modal safe routs throughout Belleair. As well as Goal E1: Leverage partnerships...End

Previous Commission Action: N/A
Background/Problem Discussion: The Town Commission had previously asked staff to look at and evaluate pedestrian access to the Belleair Montessori Academy, Town Hall, as well the Dimmit Community Center. After several discussions, staff felt it was best to engage the services of one of the firms we have in our general engineering consulting pool.
The Town selected RS&H to help guide us through this process. After a few meetings with RS&H, it was agreed upon that the best way to help accomplish this task was to conduct a Safe Routes to School Study for that area. This study will help to identify any pedestrian travel defi...
