Body
Previous Commission Action: The Commission has discussed the naming of Tackett Park at previous meetings; however, no action has been taken prior to this meeting. Additionally, the Commission approves a proclamation in honor of Officer Tackett's memory each year.

Background/Problem Discussion: Officer Jeffery W. Tackett joined the Belleair Police Department on July 14, 1988, where he excelled at his duties and received commendations for his service to the Town. On June 13, 1993, Officer Tackett was working the midnight shift and responded to a call, where he found a suspect attempting to break into an occupied residence. Officer Tackett lost his life that night, and is the only Belleair officer to be killed in the line of duty.

For several years now, staff has discussed honoring Officer Tackett's memory through the naming and renovation of the park adjacent to the Town Hall building. As funds have come available, and as the 25-year anniversary nears, staff believes that now is an ideal time to name the park and being renovations in order to pay homage to Officer Tackett's service and sacrifice.
