Background/Problem Discussion: The entire length of Palmetto Road was identified several years ago as a roadway that was in need of full depth reconstruction. Due to budgetary concerns at the time and an attempt to go after a funding grant, this project was broken up into two separate segments. The south half of the road (from Ocala Road south to Manatee Drive) was recently rebuilt and completed by Kamminga & Roodvoets. Staff is looking to take advantage of existing contract prices and the positive working relationship we have had with Kamminga & Roodvoets to piggyback the Palmetto Road North project. Also, we are looking to recognize a considerable savings in the overall project cost by reducing the mobilization cost and engage a contractor who is already working in town.
