Recognition of Captain Brian Beery - Police Officer of the Year for Pinellas County
Summary:
The Town of Belleair is proud to share that our very own Captain Brian Beery of the Belleair Police Department has been named Police Officer of the Year in Pinellas County for 2025. This prestigious award was presented at the Commissioner John Morroni Law Enforcement and First Responder Appreciation Dinner on Saturday, March 1.
Captain Beery received this honor in recognition of his heroic leadership during hurricanes Helene and Milton. Demonstrating unwavering dedication, he spearheaded critical rescue efforts at the height of the storms. In one remarkable instance, Beery kayaked through the extreme conditions of a hurricane to reach a burning residence after reports surfaced that a disabled resident was trapped inside.
In another incident, a tree had fallen on a local business that was serving as a shelter for both workers and animals. Captain Beery and his team acted quickly to isolate the damage, preventing further harm to those seeking refuge from the storm. His actions exemplified true leadership and selflessness in the face of adversity.
Captain Beery has dedicated nearly five decades to law enforcement in Pinellas County. His career began with the Hillsborough Community College Police Department and the St. Pete Beach Police Department, followed by his tenure at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, from which he retired. He has served with the Belleair Police Department for almost 10 years, holding positions as a detective, lieutenant, and now captain.
The Commissioner John Morroni Law Enforcement and First Responder Appreciation Dinner is an annual event that honors the dedication and bravery of public safety professionals. His nomination was presented by the Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association. Captain Beery’s recognition underscores his exceptional service and commitment to the community he has faithfully served for so many years.
His legacy of bravery, leadership, and dedication to public safety continues to inspire officers and community members alike. Captain Beery’s unwavering commitment to protecting and serving Pinellas County has rightfully earned him the title of Police Officer of the Year. Join us in congratulating Captain Beery!
