Subject: Discussion of Crosswalk improvements
Summary: Staff intends to commence construction of various planned sidewalk improvements in late January, early February. The attached quotes are for the two phases of work required, as well as some options for the lighted crosswalk signs. Phase one of the work will be the demolition, concrete curb work, and ADA ramp installation to be completed by Kamminga & Roodvoets, based on our project pricing as provided. Staff will follow up with roadway leveling where required. The second phase will be to lay pavement imprints down, to match the other town crosswalks. This will be done by Paveway Systems via the attached quote. Total cost for the improvements are approximately $60,000 and is budgeted in the Capital Projects Fund. Keith Bodeker will provide additional information at the meeting regarding scheduling and to answer any questions you may have. Additionally, I would like some feedback from the Commission as to which of the crosswalk sign design styles they like most. Each set of Crosswalk signs with beacons are estimated to cost $5,000 regardless of the design. I've attached a sample of the signs and flashing beacons at West Bay Drive just east of the bridge.

Previous Commission Action: Commission asked staff to put together a plan to add and improve crosswalks throughout town, beginning with these first three locations.
Expenditure Challenges: $60,000 from Capital Projects Fund; Budgeted.
Recommendation: Though formal approval isn't required per policy, I'm seeking approval to engage our current contractor, Kamminga & Roodvoets to do the work based on the unit pricing in our contract and to have Paveway Systems, provide the pavement overlay through sole source procurement.
